Hong Kong Snig: Fugu Fish

Fugu Fish by woman from Hong Kong I was in Hong Kong recently with my dad. The hotel's japanese restaurant, Unkai, is excellent and we ended up eating there 4 times. The last night we dined there I asked our waitress if the restaurant served fugu or blowfish. I didn't want to order any — just curious. I could tell that she had trouble understanding me but she ran off to the kitchen before I could puff my cheeks out in a feeble attempt to imitate a blowfish.

When she returned she had a little slip of paper with this drawing.

Pretty cool.

Daily Snigs

Added a Daily Snigs section to the site. Figure I'm drawing enough these days to keep in the habit. The homepage will house the daily snig but there's also a section where you can peruse the archives. Also added a weeks list page for browsing by week.

Media Circus

Just posted some of the cut-out characters from the Media Circus. They were part of a sculpture (created in the spring of 1994) based on the O.J. Simpson trial.

Sketches & Scans Archive Feature

If you use Internet Explorer version 6 or newer, you have a high-speed connection (or are extraordinarily patient) and you're tired of clicking through snig after snig in the Sketches & Scans section then, holy fleen, do I have the feature for you!

Open Sketches & Scans Archive

I compiled the complete collection and using Internet Explorer's popup object I was able to add some handy functionality. If you're familiar with Windows Character Map application of Mac's KeyCaps app then you'll recognize the functionality. Just click on one of the snig icons and the large version will pop up on the lower right corner of the icon. As a bonus you can click once and mouse around the page auto-popping every icon's large version that your cursor touches. Simply click again to turn off the auto snerst.

One annoying thing is that a mousewheel will not work while the large version pop-up is present. Alas. Maybe I can debug that in a future version. I also need to add the arrow key functionality so that you can navigate without the mouse.

Please, let me know if you see any javascript errors. Gracias.

Astral Award

I can't seem to decipher who exactly is behind the Astral Awards but it was nice of them to bestow the Gold Award for snigs.com.

Many thanks to the Astral Awards Review Board.

One thousand snigs!

1,027 to be exact (as of 6/25/03, that is). At long last the scanning is over and snigscol981_1000.html is posted.

Sheriff Egghead's egg yolk as painted by Ms. Natalie, Esq., Attorney at LawNumber 1,000 is Sheriff Egghead, partially seen to the left. I can't take full credit on this particular rendering, however, as it just so happens that the yellow egg yolk atop the sheriff's noggin was colored in by Ms. Natalie, Esq., Attorney at Law. Being that she is an attorney, she requested that I also mention that she deserves full credit on the actual idea and or notion that the egg yolk be colored yellow in the first place. In fact there's a whole list of copyright law that you're infringing upon right now just by reading about the "yellow egg colorification" for which Ms. Natalie, Esq. is both fully responsible for and patent holder of.

snigs.com Redesign

Well the site has finally been updated. It took 3 years but I successfully programmed it using the date change mechanism on my digital Swatch, photographing each line of code on the 2x2 inch LCD with my civil war era Daguerreotype shadowbox camera, subsequently scanning all 35,000 zinc-based photographic plates, and, finally, instructing my secretary, Mrs. Noodles, to trace each scanned letter with a dry-erase marker directly on the computer monitor where she then beamed it, telegraphically, into an HTML editor.
